Trying to stay home....

Garage sale time

April 25, 2009

Now that we've had a few nice warm days, my daughters are gearing up for the garage sales again.  They love having them, and I suppose they're harmless, but even though they make the signs and staff them, I always end up running to gas stations and corner stores for money for the cash drawer at 7 am, and I'm not going to just sit and watch while they lug box after box of stuff up from the basement, so I end up in the middle of that too. But you know, it's a good lesson in entrepeneurship, as well as math, business skills, all sorts of stuff, and it keeps them busy and usually actually working together. So, off we go again into garage sale season!

Cruises and pirates?

April 25, 2009

Have you seen all of the news about the pirates hitting the ships lately off of the coast of Somalia?  Yikes!  I don't have the money to take a cruise right now anyway, but if I did I think I'd be staying far away from that neck of the woods. European cruises sound pretty good right now, or ones nice and close to America.   A cruise would be a nice adventure, but I'm not up for a pirate filled adventure!!

Another donut?

April 25, 2009

I annoy myself sometimes!  My husband brought home a dozen donuts this morning, a nice treat probably presumed to last for a day or two. Welllllll, we got some bad news today about an unexpected repair on our truck, a very expensive repair, and so my answer to the problem was to eat a donut, and another donut, and another.  Did this help?  Not at all, but I don't think even the best appetite suppressant in the world could have kept me from chowing through my pile of donuts. You know, I am supposed to be a grownup, right?

Home opportunities

April 19, 2009

Have you noticed how many opportunities there are to work from home right now?  I think people are realizing that we have to get creative to succeed in this economy.  There really are quite a few different ways to generate some income at home...   There are the old standbys, like babysitting/childcare, now also blogging for money, insurance lead generation , appointment setting... I can't even think of all of the different things that I've heard of lately.  If you are determined and willing to think outside of the box, there really still are things out there.  Don't give up!!

Shopping list

April 19, 2009

I was just out at the grocery store, and of course, drew a blank as to what I needed for home.  Thankfully my shopping list was safe and sound in our kitchen!!!  :)  Now that I'm home I can remember it all clearly, without the list...  Ay yay yay!   So we still need paper towels, Sylvania light bulbs, jelly, and a half dozen other things. On the bright side, I've got an excuse to run out by myself later on today, and solitary outings are few and far between, so that could be a fun thing!

Country girl?

April 19, 2009

One of my kiddos was asking again, "are we going to move out to a house in the country?"  I know that it was part of our plan when we moved, and it just didn't happen, though I'm still not sure why, but I'm not sure if I'm really a country girl.   I think I'd do fine.  I learn quickly.  Right now, though, I don't know chicken feed from horse supplements, which could be a problem :). Okay, maybe not that bad, but I'd need a serious coach in the matter. We'll see what the future holds. We know the One who holds it has some sort of a plan for us!

The easy way out

April 19, 2009

I am so challenged in the gift giving department.  I think the problem is that I typically don't slow down enough to really think through other gift options.  What would they like?  Do they have it? I just love the old standby gift card. I know that some just aren't fans of them, and I know that they are the easy way out of thinking about a gift, but you know, sometimes easy isn't all that bad. Love 'em!
